1. Website Search
These are the generalist Website Search Engine that crawls everything out in the WWW and tries to give us the best result based on what we type in that little search box:
| Search Engine | Why Should I try it! | Comments |
| Because it is Google! | The undisputed leader in general web search! | |
| Yahoo | Because you use Yahoo Mail or consume one of the million Yahoo Services and content currently anyway. | The undisputed runner up in general web site! |
| Live Search | Because you are a fan of Bill and Microsoft technology in the past. | Microsoft is launching a major assault on the web by integrating its desktop application with various “Live” services. Stay tuned. |
| Ask.com | Is reputed to have the best user privacy policy. User can choose to completely erase all current and past search history. | What many are calling “The Fourth Player’ in Search |
2. Search Aggregation Website
OK, now we know that there are other search engines out there other than Google, what’s the best and easiest way to use them all and compare the results. Here is where Search aggregation sites (sometimes called Metasearch Search Engine) comes in! These sites do not have a search index nor do they provide any search results on their own, instead, they will pick up your queries, hand them over to all the major search engines and compile all the results in a neatly formatted results page so that you can easily scan through them and compare the results.
| Search Engine | Why Should I try it | Comments |
| Jux2 | Was voted best MetaSearch Engine by SearchEngineWatch | As well as bringing results from all major search engines, Jux2 also shows you what the major search engines agree on and disagree on |
| AfterVote | Well designed interface that shows exactly where each site rank in all the search engines. | After a results is returned to the user, the user has the ability to rank a result up or down. |
| Zuula | Clean, simple tabbed interface. Lightly fast and comprehensive coverage | My personal favourite when it comes to Aggregated Searching! |
| Dogpile | “According Dogpile”, supposed to have attained the highest ranking in Search customer satisfaction survey | The paid/sponsored results are mixed with the organic results which is bad in my book. |
3. Blog Search
You love your blogs and you trust and enjoy what people have to say on their blogs. How do I narrow my search to just blogs. Here the contenders when it comes to specialised blog searching.
| Search Engine | Why Should I try it | Comments |
| Technorati | One of the original and one of the best. Extensive features for the serious blog searcher | The Technorati Authority for Blogs is the equivalent of what Google PageRank for Websites and is suppose to be a far superior ranking system for blogs |
| Google Blog Search | It looks and works just like standard Google Search and is lightly fast! | Tight Integration with Blogger.com means faster and better indexing of Blogger.com blogs. |
