One of the primary differentiation point of Gmail is its “Archive all and Search later” approach to email management. I must admit I was a skeptic when I first started using it after many years of masterful hierarchical folder management using Microsoft outlook. Now I am a total convert, as long as you know how to search for it, it is much easy to search and find the email you want than to plan and anticipate for the right folder structure for easy access.

I am a fan and heavy user of Google Desktop Search but have always been curios about Windows Desktop Search and wanted to do a comparison between the two. Well, the guys at Download Squad have beaten me to it and done a good job in comparing the latest offerings from Microsoft and Google.

They looked at a number of factors that are important from a user’s point of view including:

• Indexing options available
• Automatic categorisation of documents
• General Ease of Use
